The Purpose Behind Car Floor Mats
Car floor mats have been a standard accessory in
cars since the early 1950s. We tend to take them for
granted, but never really think about the purpose
behind them. That purpose is helping to keep the
interior of the car clean.
When car makers first began putting carpet into
vehicles, there were still more dirt roads than
paved ones. While this is not the case today, there
are still many parts of the country where people
must walk through dirt or mud to reach their car.
Floor mats make it easier to remove this dirt from
the car as it falls off a person's shoes.
There are two basic types of car floor mats. One
type is made of vinyl or rubber and the other is
comprised of a combination of carpet that matches
the interior of the car and a rubber backing. Both
have the ability to be removed from the car and
cleaned using a regular garden hose or pressure
washed at a car wash.
In the case of the carpeted mats, one can use the
high pressure vacuum cleaners at a car wash to
remove a great deal of dirt without getting them
wet. Either way they are cleaned, they help to keep
the interior of the car cleaner.
