There are several different companies that manufacture Houston shutters. The one thing all have in common is that they make each set of shutters to order. Therefore, precise measurements are helpful when ordering Houston shutters.

Each set of shutters should be the same height as the windows they are going to adorn or a couple of inches taller. The idea is to frame the window with them to enhance the appearance of the home. In order to maintain symmetry, shutters will be half the width of the window plus the distance from the outside of window to the hinges that the shutters are hung from.

Even if the shutters are not intended to ever be closed, the side to side measurement should allow them to meet exactly in the center of the window if they are closed. The necessary measurement here is the width of the window divided by two. This measurement must be exact.

The measurement of the height of the window should be as precise as possible. However, this particular measurement is a bit more forgiving than the side to side measurement that determines the width of the shutters. More precise measurements are more helpful, though, when ordering a set of shutters.
